Hello and a very very happy Independence day to all Indians in every corner of the world!
India celebrates its 69th Independence day today and I couldn’t be more excited! I have always been a bit sentimental towards the nation, and Independence and Republic day celebrations bring it out to the fore. However, I will not preach or go into any reflections about what is the true meaning of our Independence and how we can do our bit towards the nation etc. because I’m sure there is no dearth of such gyaan on social media platforms. Our Deshbhakti (Patriotism) often comes out in the form of lectures and strictures, two days in a year 😛
I do want to do something different for Independence day though, and hence today’s post will not contain any gardening gyaan. I want to share one of my dearest hobbies with you – painting. Since I was a child I loved to sketch and paint, but because of more pressing demands on my time I had to let it take a backseat. However, I am determined to pick it up again and remain faithful this time 🙂
If you remember, I had shared with you my dream of a Bougainvillea laden balcony in this post. So, in this post I decided to show you what my balcony looks like now; and what I hope it looks like some time in the future.
Please click on the pictures to enlarge them.
It’s a west-facing balcony and hence receives full sun from about 1 p.m till sunset. I’ve put a couple of Bougainvilleas and palms, but there hasn’t been too much sun lately. Nevertheless, I really really hope that the Bougainvilleas fill up in some time 😀
So, when that day comes, my balcony is going to look something like this:
In case it’s not clear, the banister is supposed to get covered in white, orange, yellow and pink blooms. Never mind the fact that I have only pink and white (supposedly) and they aren’t flowering….. But, hope springs eternal; does it not?
Well that’s all from my side for today, have to enjoy my Independence day weekend 🙂
Do let me know what you think of my renewed attempt at painting. It’s not my best, but I’m a bit rusted after a 7-8 year hiatus. I’ll post more of my paintings as and when I make them. Hope you like them!
Signing off for now, and awaiting your views and suggestions, as always! 🙂
